SuperSport ready for new season
They ended the 2019\2020 Premier Division season with a top five finish but going to the new Dstv Premiership 2020\2021 season SuperSport United walk with a new sense of optimism wanting to better last season’s showing.
When speaking to the media ahead of his side’s opening game to the new league campaign, Matsatsantsa head coach Kaitano Tembo pointed out the unusual preseason the team had, as they had little time to prepare for the new season.
“It is quite difficult but I think for us we are very lucky enough to have played our first game MTN8 game against TTM. That game was a bit of game time in terms of playing competiveness matches and it was challenging . It gave us an idea of where we are in terms of the squad, we are playing against Black Leopards our first league game. It is not going to be an easy game, we are anticipating a tough game,” said Kaiteno Tembo.
Kaitano Tembo believes mentally his team are in a better situation following their 3-2 win against TTM which led to them moving onto the semi-finals of the MTN8.
“The moral in the camp is a bit high, that is a motivation on its own. Our mandate is to do well than last season , we also have to defend it because the trophy we have it . It is part of our mandate . Same thing in the league, we want to do better than last season.”
Although Supersport United might have few players out due to injuries, Kaitano believes that he is ready to face Black Leopards. The likes of Sipho Mbule, Evans Rusike, Kudakwashe Mahachi, Thatoyaone Ditlokwe, and Jesse Donn are all out with injuries.
Tembo is also excited by the signings Lucky Mohomi who joined from rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, ending his frustrating stay in Chloorkop, he believes the midfielder can return to his best and be a key part of the team.
“I know he was in a difficult state of mind. Training knowing that you won’t play can be stressful for any player . I had to sit down with him , we are committed to help him . We know what kind of a player he is , he is very good technical player. What has been encouraging for me is I have seen his attitude towards training and the process, the commitment is what we look at.”
SuperSport United take on Black Leopards this Saturday at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
