What if Carlu Sadie pulled a Jomo Sono
The story of how Jomo Sono left his wedding to go and help Orlando Pirates beat Highlands park 4-2 after they were down 2-0 at halftime, and returned to a delayed reception is well documented.
That happened in 1979, fast forward to December 2020, Carlu Sadie of the Xerox Lions is getting married while his team is playing on Saturday against the DHL Western Province.
“He’s getting married, when he got engaged last year and when he planned for the wedding; normally we would be in preseason now. As a team, want to honour that. Life happened, he made plans months ago, he must go enjoy his wedding, we’ll see him on Monday,” said Lions head coach when quizzed about Sadie’s absence.
What if, this is a big what if; what if Carlu Sadie channelled his inner Jomo Sono on the day of his wedding. Changes on the bench can still be made an hour before kickoff. So, for Sadie, he would have to ditch the wedding right after the ‘I do’s’ like Sono.
