“We want to win trophies for the club,” says Kekana
As the hunt for the treble continues for Mamelodi Sundowns, their captain Hlompho Kekana has declared that “we want to win trophies for the club,” ahead of their top of the table clash against Kaizer Chiefs; as the season is reaching its climax.
Mamelodi Sundowns managed to go within three points of the log leader Kaizer Chiefs, when they defeated Golden Arrows with a stoppage time goal from Temba Zwane on Monday 24 August. The win was their first since the resumption of the league and it has served as a reviver for their tittle defence.
“It was a morale booster for the team, it was a breather to win against Arrows. We are in a very good space at the moment, we managed to get the three points we were looking for as the team. There were many games we tried to win but we made things difficult for ourselves by not defending very well and scoring enough goals,” said Hlompho Kekana to the Mamelodi Sundowns media team.
The match to be played at the Orlando Stadium is a high-pressure one as it pits two of the main title contenders and Kekana believes his side is well equipped to deal with the situation thanks to the experience accumulated over the years.
“We now understand the nature of this game, and I believe that are a very ambitious team, we have been in this space for many seasons now; we understand that we have to take each game at a time.
And one of the games we have to take care of is the one against Chiefs, and we know that we have to do our business there. We have to make sure that we win the match and take care of all the elements that are involved in the game. We are in the right frame of mind to do so, and I believe we stand a chance of doing the business ourselves.”
With the teams moral high, the belief in the Sundowns camp of them going all the way is alive. “The boys know its doable, we can win the match again, there are so many games to be played. I believe we have a chance to continue to serve the team and make sure we win matches,” added Kekana.
