A Letter to My Young Self: Zanele Vimbela
A Letter to My Young Self
Dear Zanele
If you were told that being a netball player is one of the most important aspects of your life; something that would take you to different places, exploring different cultures and it being part of your unique personality, I’m sure you would think I’m joking or being foolish to even think of such! The thing is, you’re still taking in as much life as you can. Even though you’re a DIY (Do It Yourself) kind of person, rather seek advice and guidance from family and others you consider wiser individual. You’re bound to make both good and unwise decisions, and yet to experience setback in your life.
I know you still need to build on your confidence, and be a bit outspoken to do what you want. And being involved in sports, one of the great things you’ve become quite decent at playing. Continue doing what you know you’ll enjoy, otherwise you wouldn’t have made the choice of playing the game you have grown to love. Don’t be afraid to experience different thing at this stage, even though you are still deciding what you really want out of life. There’s no deadline in life, do not put a personal journey; live your life at your own pace, I know you won’t waste it.
Your family will back you in whatever you do, but don’t change yourself to suit other people. Maybe you haven’t realised your potential yet, but you have an ability to achieve anything you commit to. Perhaps you should think about putting down some goals, it can be sometimes challenging as you’d prefer putting them in your mind rather than writing them down, but you’ll come to finding it useful to have or see these little reminders daily. You have been challenged with not having enough opportunities to show how good you are on the netball court; you sometimes wish there was a bit of support for you to make that a possibility.
But you haven’t given up on some of these goals, in fact you have had some sacrifices in your young life to get where you are, but of course, you don’t have a bragging bone in your body, your hard work speaks for you; as you are not a person of many words. Best believe, if you continue the path to achieve those goals, you will be rewarded immensely. You will meet people that will admire and respect you and vice versa; make good friends, and happiness won’t be very far to reach. Stay true to yourself, and be happy.
Yours Loving
Zanele Vimbela
