Jake White excited by Super Rugby Unlocked win

Vodacom Bulls Director of Rugby Jake White is ecstatic about getting his first trophy at the Pretoria based franchise.

“I’m very happy, I wanted to get this union to win something, we are measured on results, so I’m very happy,” said White when speaking to the media in a virtual post-match press conference following his side’s 21-5 win against the Phakisa Pumas in Pretoria.

The appointment of White was met with a lot of expectations, and they were elevated when he went off a spending spree, revamping the Bulls team. He managed to live up to the expectation, even going to exceed them, when looking at the fact that the squad was recently assembled.

The former Brumbies coach explained his delight about winning the fourth Super Rugby for the Bulls as they are the only team from South Africa to win the competition.

“It’s fantastic, not just for me but for the union; it hasn’t won anything for ten years. There was an opportunity to win two trophies, every team knew that at the end of the first round there was a trophy to be won. We were fully aware if we won the trophy as the Bull, we will be the only franchise from South Africa to win Super Rugby.”

However, not much time to celebrate this trophy win, as the Currie Cup is right around the corner. The Bulls will visit Western Province next weekend in what will be the last game at Newlands between the two teams.

Squad rotation is something that will be on White’s agenda going to the next phase of rugby, but he mentioned how he has the whole team invested in the project and how even the fringe players are giving their best.

The celebrations will go on throughout the night and Sunday and then on Monday it will be back to the field and the focus will be back om winning again.

“There’s a massive amount of confidence you get from winning something, winning creates a habit, now we know the feeling,” added White.
